COECSA
August 2025, Ethiopia
Facilitators Profs. Karl Golnik, Meenakshi Swaminathan, and Ass. Prof. Tsedeke Asaminew Alemu led the workshop, “Ophthalmic Educators Train the Trainers” at the College of Ophthalmology of Eastern, Central and Southern Africa (COECSA) congress. The goal of this workshop was to improve ophthalmic educators teaching and assessing abilities in resident education. Participants indicated that they plan to update their teaching behaviors and methods of feedback, MCQ questions, and preparation and overall will become become better trainers.

AMEE

We are delighted to highlight the Ophthalmology Foundation at the International Association for Health Professions Education (AMEE). Dr. Helena Prior Filipe co-organized and participated in the CPD Committee Symposium “CPD in the Workplace: How to Connect Formal and Informal Learning?’” Participants had had an insightful dialogue exploring the creation of meaningful connections between structured learning and workplace experience, inspiring takeaways to apply in practice.

The Brazilian Council of Ophthalmology (CBO) welcomed once again the Ophthalmology Foundation through the participation of Dr. Helena Prior Filipe at the annual CBO Educators Conference. Insights exchange into competency-based education unpacked invaluable guidance for shaping the next generation of ophthalmology education.



ESCRS
September 2025, Denmark
At the Congress of European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), the Ophthalmology Foundation hosted a symposium, “Teaching Smarter, Not Harder”, as the theme explored this year in co-organization with ESCRS. Based on a series of Rapid-Fire Case-Pearls for Teaching Cataract and Refractive Surgery in the OR, Sim Lab, and Beyond, international experienced faculty with early emergent health professions educators prompted the audience. A livable and insightful dialogue with theory-tied pearls ready to apply in the daily teaching practice took place.
