I was pleased to take part in the Ophthalmology Foundation examination this March. After finishing my residency training, I rarely read comprehensive ophthalmology textbooks and instead focused mainly on my daily clinical work. Over time, this not only limited my knowledge but also reduced my curiosity for learning. The Ophthalmology Foundation examination was more of a personal challenge than a formal test for me, and that is what made it interesting. Preparing for the exam encouraged me to revisit many fundamental topics that I had not studied for years. On the examination day, I found that the questions were not designed to be tricky. Instead, they were logical, practical, and relevant to real-world ophthalmology. I would like to thank the Ophthalmology Foundation for organizing this examination in Vietnam and providing local ophthalmologists with the opportunity to participate in an international-standard assessment. Thank you for your efforts in supporting ophthalmology education worldwide.

The Clinical Ophthalmology exam in March represented an effective test of the knowledge required for an ophthalmologist with a global perspective. The examination embraced all areas of ophthalmology with significant depth, while also covering essential topics regarding public health policies and the metrics used to measure their effectiveness. I am very grateful for this exam, which alongside the Visual Sciences and the Optics, Refraction, and Instruments examinations, enabled me to become the first Brazilian to achieve the status of Fellow of the International Ophthalmology Foundation.

First of all, I wanted to thank the great and responsive examination team of the International Ophthalmology Foundation. I was supposed to take the optics and visual science exams in Iran; however, due to the war and internet restrictions, I was unable to. I shared my issue with the examination team, and they quickly resolved it by contacting the examination center in Turkey, without any stress or pressure on me. The exam also took place in a comfortable place with kind administrators. The exams were also so comprehensive and clinically relevant in both optics and visual science sections. There were no excessive questions based solely on memorization, without any clinical use. In addition, I really enjoyed the fast marking and results processes. In my opinion, passing the IFO exams might play a significant role in ophthalmologists’ professional CVs as an indicator of an internationally recognized level of ophthalmology knowledge.

Participating in the Ophthalmology Foundation examination in Optics, Refraction and Instruments was both challenging and rewarding. It was a well organized process and the team were supportive and demonstrated professionalism and attention to detail throughout. It’s been an enriching experience!

My experience with the Ophthalmology Foundation examinations was excellent and highly rewarding. The Visual Science, Optics & Refraction exam at Al-Kindy Teaching Hospital in Iraq was conducted with a high level of professionalism, organization, and academic rigor. I was particularly impressed by the quality and precision of the assessment process. The online examination was well structured, and the questions were carefully designed to evaluate both theoretical knowledge and clinical understanding. Together with the examination center assessments, the process provided a comprehensive, fair, and reliable evaluation of candidates’ competencies. I am proud to have achieved very good results in these examinations, especially considering that this was the first time the examination had been conducted in Iraq. As the sole candidate sitting the examination at the center, I greatly appreciated the attention given to ensuring a smooth and professional experience. Despite the severe stormy weather and heavy rainfall on the examination day, the center delivered an outstanding experience without any disruption and internet connectivity remained stable throughout, demonstrating remarkable preparation and commitment. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Prof. Dr. Tara Rasheed for her outstanding coordination, encouragement, and support throughout the examination process. Having previously qualified in the FRCS Glasgow, FRCS Edinburgh, and FRCOphth London examinations, I approached the FIOF Clinical Ophthalmology exam with a reasonably high benchmark. What stood out was the quality of the clinical scenario-based questions — broad in subspecialty coverage and genuinely reflective of real-world practice. Adding the FIOF to an already international credential portfolio is, quite simply, a matter of pride.

Today was the FIOF exam, which was conducted at our Institute. I took part in part 1: optics, refraction, and instruments. Experience was fabulous. The exam interface was very user-friendly. Navigation was easy once the login was complete. The level of the questions was also really good, conceptual, demanded basic clarity of concepts, and really opened up the mind. This, I feel, is essential for any resident, as a postgraduate or a fellow, to have a strong and clear foundation. Special thanks to my Institution for making it possible for me to take this exam sitting at my familiar home pitch. This especially alleviates a major apprehension about traveling and staying in a new place, given the cost factor, and helps relax the mind. One can best dream of writing an international exam in one’s own place. All in all, a great experience; would encourage everyone who is eligible to give it a shot. Thanks to OF for bringing out such an affordable and convenient exam pattern to India.

I wanted a certificate that would formally acknowledge my knowledge in a specific area of ophthalmology, and this program provided exactly that. I took the Visual Sciences and Optics & Refraction examinations conducted by the Ophthalmology Foundation. The overall experience was excellent and very well organized. The examination was a well-structured and professionally designed assessment of ophthalmic knowledge. I took the exam at the Turkish Ophthalmological Association (TOA) headquarters in Istanbul, where the environment was organized and supportive. An invigilator and technical support team were present, and I used the TOA-provided computers without any technical issues. I found the questions to be objective and fair, with a strong emphasis on visual interpretation. I particularly appreciated the large number of image-based questions, which reflect the inherently visual nature of ophthalmology. It is a true honour to have achieved FIOF status. I would like to sincerely thank the OF examination team and TOA for their efforts and support.

For a person practising ophthalmology in a third world country, a lot of questions were things I have only read on and not necessarily seen. A lot were also on world standards so its imperative to read widely. However, the time was adequate and the question pictures were very clear. It was good exposure to international exams and am very grateful for the opportunity.

After being in medical practice for over 35 years, I came across the Ophthalmology Foundation. I thought I would use their exams as part of my continuing medical education found that preparing for these exams was a good way to refresh and update my knowledge of contemporary ophthalmology. The examination itself was fair, probing and comprehensive. I recommend the examinations to ophthalmologists m training to enhance their knowledge and confidence, and to prepare for their final examinations. I had the opportunity to take Steps 1 and 2 of the FIOF examination on March 26th. The process was seamless and well-coordinated. I truly appreciated the excellent communication from Nicola Quilter and Vicky Glossop, who ensured we had all the necessary information regarding the exam schedule, location, and requirements well in advance. I recently received a heartwarming message about passing the clinical ophthalmology exam. For the preparation I used the AOO- CSC volumes, Review of ophthalmology 4th edition, as well as OKAPS review courses and cybersight eye questions as well as other resources. I didn’t leave behind any resource that I judged helpful. I was very anxious in front of the exam due to the recent advanced accreditation of my institution (RIIO) by OF, it was an occasion to prove that we were worth that accreditation. The exam reflected an active participation in daily clinical decision making in front of real patients. And the knowledge required to any young ophthalmologist practicing.

The Ophthalmology Foundation exams is well crafted and structured-staged examinations the cover all aspect of ophthalmology specialties, in the light of general ophthalmology. It is appropriate not only for ophthalmology residents at different stages of the career progression, but also for qualified and practising Ophthalmologists. My wish and advice is that Ophthalmology Foundation Executives and policy makers should as a matter of urgency and necessity make the fellowship certificate recognizable other notable professional bodies like Royal Colleges of ophthalmology, GMC, Ireland, Australia,USA, etc.

I took visual sciences and optics and refraction exam and It was a unique experience. The questions were well-structured, clinically oriented, and really tested both theoretical knowledge and practical understanding especially optics and refraction questions were very unique. It wasn’t just about remembering facts; it was about thinking like a clinician. I’m glad and happy that I have cleared both the exams.

The Ophthalmology foundation exam offers a chance for residents and even consultants to gauge their knowledge in a very structured and well-formatted online exam. As for me, I am currently a Surgical retina fellow still actively training at the Singapore National Eye Center, who decided to take part in this exam as a means to strengthen my opportunity in applying for the IOFF-OF subspecialty fellowship. From my perspective as an Exam Centre Coordinator, collaborating with the Ophthalmology Foundation for their examinations was exceptionally smooth. The Department of Ophthalmology at Saarland University Medical Center in Homburg/Saar, Germany hosted the first round of the new OF Exams this March. We have been very excited beforehand to see how the new online exams are perceived by participants. On the day, exams ran smoothly with technical support constantly on hand and initial queries regarding the online system could therefore be resolved immediately. Our participants were able to take their exams within the given time frame and were very happy with the implementation and support on the day of the exam. We are looking forward to host the next exams in September.

The Ophthalmology Foundation’s first exam was a success—and even better, it was conducted online, making the entire process efficient and cost-effective. As the General Director of the International European Company for Higher Education, Training, and Consultancy in Benghazi, Libya, I was honored to coordinate the Ophthalmology Examination held on March 26th. This event marked a historic milestone— the first time such a prestigious medical examination was conducted in Libya in collaboration with a leading global institution. The new online exam format provides a more practical way of application and the the team gave excellent technical support in the background. It would be more practical if candidates could use their own computers and financial support would be provided for test centers.
